Type:
Duration: Target audience: The course is designed for employees at all levels from all types of organizations, profit or non-profit, public or private, service or manufacturing. The minimum prerequisites are a working knowledge of the basic process improvement tools, (Pareto Charts, Run Charts, Histograms), and all arithmetic operations. Knowledge of basic algebra is helpful but not necessary. Use of a quincunx (a mechanical training aid) enables all participants to quickly grasp the practical concepts of statistical variation. Summary of content: History, purpose and benefits of statistical process control. Understanding the effects of variation on service and manufacturing processes. Data collection methods and sampling techniques. Scatter diagrams for data correlation. Central tendency and measures of dispersion. Histograms and advanced frequency distribution patterns Variable control charts to track variation in measured data Attribute control charts to track variation in counted data Other control charts: pre-control, moving average, short run. Objectives and benefits: The objectives are for participants to develop abilities in the application of statistical tools to analyze data and minimize process variation. Knowledge of variation and its effects is key to developing consistent process performance, reducing scrap, rework, internal costs, and improving any organization. Participants will be able to collect, analyze, and interpret data using a variety of techniques for both manufacturing and administrative processes. Students are encouraged to share data from their own organization, agency, or department so the knowledge of process analysis and process control can be applied to real-life practical situations.
